Hello! This is how I made my Flash files smaller I am using flash mx as an example so it may be a little different but should still be similar.
On the flash movie you are making when you are ready to make it into a .swf in flash go to File>Publish Settings then on the window that comes up click flash ( the one at the top) put version as the newest one possible on options select protect from import and compress movie. select your Jpeg quality( this only affects bitmaps) and check on override sound settings.
